I’ve been so blind.
I didn’t see the love and the stars in you,
Because I couldn’t see them in

Don’t We Know?

You are loved.
You are important.
You are beautiful.

You are whole
And don’t need anyone
To fill you up.

You are intelligent
And have a voice
That should not be suppressed.

You are not property.
You do not have to do anything
To please another.

Your skin is gorgeous
And your body is
perfect just as it is.

You are not “emotional”,
You are a human being
With a precious gift to feel.

You can ask for help.
It is not a sign of weakness
But a source of strength.

Your thoughts are not silly.
How you see the world
Is completely unique to you.

You can love yourself.

Elevated Soul

Drums break the silence and
My being is called to attention.
I am here, totally present,
A sense of joy is slowly rising.

The vocals fade in flawlessly,
I am taken to another place.
Just me and the music
In perfect synchronicity.

Layers of sound fill the room and
My body instinctively takes over.
Bobbin’, hoppin’, shaking and quaking,
There is no logic or thought.

I am set free. I am love.

The Skirt

Too pretty
Too cute
Too sexy

We are at the start.
So many plans to be made, so many dreams.
We can be, go, do
Whatever we put our heart, and money, into.

Can we mend memories of the past?
Or change ourselves in some way?
I just can’t think, the cold is biting my skin.
Why don’t we go on a trip somewhere then?

Eyes unfocused
Thoughts elsewhere
So many projects
I yearn to do

I can’t get out
Invisible forces
Paralyse my body
And I’m helpless

An infinite countdown
That doesn’t stop
Until I become of age
Or am found dead

I need to speed up
Time in my mind
Images of life
Takes away the grey

To entertain and calm
Nerves on the edge
An impermanent solution
Till the counter ends

Why does time feel different in each moment?
It can drag painfully on,
Or can turn to memories so fast.
As kids time would never end,
With new wonders to explore each day.
As we’ve grown, the years are familiar cycles;
The strongest memories a measure of time.
It’s surprising how time alters on us,
We must grab hold of it while we can!

Fall Sunrise

Sunrise #1The other morning I had a chance to get up early and capture these lovely images of the sunrise! There’s construction going on nearby for a new highway, which doesn’t sound particularly beautiful, but I love the way the power lines poke through with the steam escaping from their work and the reflections of the sun in the water.

Summer Reflections

Summer is slowly winding down, but luckily while I write this post I’m enjoying the last bits of radiant sunshine! I am so grateful for the past few months where I experienced  many things, both new & old, as well as meeting some interesting new people. I valued this summer more than others because in the months before it seemed a lot of people, including myself, experienced a family loss. With this in-your-face sign of how fragile life is, I did not want to take my summer for granted.

With this motivation in mind I pushed myself to try new things. I chose to make time and go cycling, travel the world both near and far, learn to ride a motorcycle, visit the aftermath of a nearby flood, participate in the Color Me Rad 5K, practice my photography, meditate, read, take care of my garden, and spend time with people I care most about. Some of my goals weren’t that easy but I stuck with it and accomplished my summer goals.

The warm weather of the summer sets us free to do anything we want to. Now that fall and winter are creeping upon us, we shouldn’t think of it as a limiting experience but as an opportunity for growth and development. Will we learn some new skills, perhaps take a snowboarding or skating lesson? Or will we put our self out there and meet new people? Let us make some new goals for the winter to accomplish before summer comes calling again!

B & W FrameToday I was unsure what to photograph for this post. I was a bit tired all day, a little bored & I may have been over thinking this task. Once I realized I just need to do it, I picked up my camera and started to play around; this shot came about by playing with my aperture settings. The white frame of the mirror against the dark walls caught my eye and my reflection in the mirror added that extra interest as a behind the scenes look. I’m glad it turned out and I can now add this self-portrait to my collection!
